Beef and Cabbage Stir Fry

Ingredients

for initial mix

  • 3 tbsp Soy Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Beef Broth
  • 1 tbsp Oyster Sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Toasted Sesame Oil
  • 1 tsp Cornstarch
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 2 tsp Ginger
  • 3 garlic
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil
  • 6 cup napa cabbage
  • 1 1/2 cup Carrot
  • Rice
  • scallion greens for garnish

for finishing

  • 1 tsp Soy Sauce

Equipment

  • Large Nonstick Pan
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Paper Towel

Instructions

  1. 1

To make the sauce, add all of the ingredients to a measuring cup and whisk to combine. Set aside.

  2. 2

Heat a large nonstick pan over medium-high heat and spray with oil. Add the ground beef and use a wooden spoon to break it up into small pieces. Cook, stirring occasionally until the beef is browned and cooked through. Add the garlic and ginger and cook 30 seconds more, until fragrant. Transfer the beef to a plate.

  3. 3

Use a paper towel to wipe the pan clean then return it to the stove.

  4. 4

Add the sesame oil to the hot skillet over medium heat. Add the cabbage. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is just tender, about 3 minutes. Add the carrot and cooked ground beef to the skillet and stir to incorporate. Add the sauce and stir to combine. Cook for another 40 seconds, until the sauce is coating the meat well. Remove from heat.

  5. 5

Serve over rice and garnish with scallions and toasted sesame seeds.

Ago's Notes

  • Adjust salt to taste based on your canned goods.

The robust umami from the sauces perfectly complements the crisp bite of the cabbage, proving that even simple dishes can pack a powerful punch. Enjoy this dish as a testament to the elegance of simplicity and respect for ingredients.
