A creamy homemade tartar sauce with dill pickles, capers, fresh dill, lemon, Dijon mustard and garlic, ready in 10 minutes.

This quick homemade tartar sauce balances rich mayonnaise with crisp pickles, briny capers, fresh dill and lemon. Dijon mustard, garlic and onion powder round out the flavor without any cooking.

Tartar Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tbsp diced dill pickles
  • 1 tbsp Capers, chopped
  • 1 tbsp Dill
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Dijon Mustard
  • 1 Garlic Cloves, grated
  • 1/4 tsp Onion Powder
  • to taste Freshly Ground Black Pepper

Instructions

    In a medium bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, diced pickles, chopped capers, dill, lemon juice, sugar, Dijon mustard, grated garlic, onion powder and several grinds of black pepper. Taste and adjust the seasoning before serving.

  • Fresh dill gives the sauce its distinctive freshness, but fresh parsley or chives can be substituted.
  • Finely dice the pickles and chop the capers so their tangy flavor is distributed evenly through the mayonnaise.
  • Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days and stir well before serving again.

Serve the tartar sauce chilled or freshly mixed with fried fish, seafood, fries, roasted vegetables or sandwiches.
